(If anyone knows precisely when this is going to happen, please let us know.)
Given that it will probably be the early afternoon, this is a pretty minor gesture for us. But at this time is there anything that we could or should be doing? It's An Ill Wind...
Quite a few years ago, a property developer hatched a plan to build an eleven story apartment block over (yes, literally in the air space above) the premises from which we trade. That plan came to nothing, presumably because of lack of customer interest in the apartments themselves.
Over the last two or three years the plan has been revived by another developer. Multiple Releases
This week we have two beer releases to alert readers to, and both are quite special as far as we're concerned.
First up, on Tuesday, comes a beer that we actually helped to make. To give credit where it’s due, this beer is very much the work of brewpub Fortune Favours, but our own Steven Wells made every contribution in ideas and labour that he possibly could.
So Steven andDominichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09858038384567580623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658774796857871869.post-4756794068334975522019-02-14T13:05:00.000+13:002019-02-14T13:05:02.537+13:00February 14, 2019
By The Glass
This week we revive our tradition of offering rare beer by the glass instead of the full bottle. This has the advantage of letting you savour some of those beers that almost never turn up on tap, without making an investment of $40 or much more in a whole bottle.
We’ll start this Saturday with Kereru’s Night Spirit – their whisky barrel aged imperial stout. We did in fact have Dominichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09858038384567580623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658774796857871869.post-62199747655715253072019-01-31T15:25:00.002+13:002019-01-31T15:25:27.355+13:00January 31, 2019
Upcoming Events
Monday the 4th is Super Bowl Monday. As described last week, we’ll be putting our lounge in screening room mode for the afternoon, and welcoming anyone who thinks they might enjoy the season finale of the world’s most lucrative sporting league.
We’ll even throw our doors open a little earlier than the standard midday, to help everyone get fed and watered in plenty of time Dominichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09858038384567580623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658774796857871869.post-50634098919815783712019-01-17T14:37:00.000+13:002019-01-17T14:37:48.386+13:00January 17, 2019
Planet Watson
Darren Watson is an authentic champion of free speech.
With apologies to anyone who knows this story well, in 2014 Darren came up with something that’s now quite rare – political satire in song form. Planet Key was recorded and released during the months before that year’s election, which is what you’d do if you’re an artist with political convictions, wanting to remind the Dominichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09858038384567580623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658774796857871869.post-52089208416152242052019-01-10T14:16:00.002+13:002019-01-10T14:16:38.242+13:00January 10, 2019
Welcome Back
Yes, returning to regular work patterns can be a challenge, especially when the sun is shining (and the road outside is being dug up).
To ease the pain we’re making a rare and very special offer with nearby workers in mind. Rock Dots
Earlier this week Hashigo Zake was delighted to learn that our booker hadn’t actually made a typo on eventfinda.co.nz, and this Saturday’s music comes from someone with an umlaut in his name. We don’t care that Baron Oscar Lavën’s music is some distance from rock ‘n roll and that the performer in question was born with said umlaut. December Entertainment
Part 1 - Music
It seems that December is as close as two days away. As in the day after tomorrow. Which is frightening for those of us still getting over 2017. The arrival of December portends much in the way of end of year rituals and seasonal celebrations. But for us a lot of the excitement has to do with the prospect of another month’s worth of bands and cult movies.Dominichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09858038384567580623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658774796857871869.post-86867255632145636782018-11-22T16:14:00.000+13:002018-11-22T16:14:41.904+13:00November 22, 2018
How to Crash Nick Granville's Birthday
Nick Granville is one of Wellington’s most respected and in-demand musicians. He doesn’t do a lot of pub gigs, but often tells us that he likes playing in our lounge so much that he not only makes an exception by playing here, he entices high profile guests to come here and play alongside him.

Start of the Golden Weather
A whole nine years ago, shortly after Hashigo Zake first opened, we purchased a keg of a pale ale by a little known brewery based in Mapua, near Nelson, called Golden Bear. Everyone on our side of the bar thought it was quite tasty and the longer it remained on tap, the faster it seemed to sell.
We didn’t know much about Golden Bear except for whispers that their Dominichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09858038384567580623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658774796857871869.post-65674037765805198592018-09-27T15:19:00.003+12:002018-09-27T16:27:44.258+12:00September 27, 2018

"In Okinawa, all Miyagi know three things: fish, Karate and Hazy IPAs"
A wise man once said that.

Tax Evasion
Hamilton’s Brewaucracy continue to come up with on-brand beer names. And we think that the beer lives up to the hype too, which is just as well given how outspoken Greig and Phil have been as beer judges and critics over the years.
Tax Evasion is their new 2.5% table beer. It goes on tap at 5pm on Tuesday.

It's been a fairly tumultuous week in the brewing world, mainly centering around social media with the furore centering around Dystopian State Brewery and Bryan Roths article and subsequent reaction article from Sarah Rybicki, it was a timely reminder that this industry is far from perfect but is always willing to hold a mirror up and examine itself and try to Dominichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09858038384567580623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658774796857871869.post-76356730721841255072017-12-28T17:38:00.000+13:002017-12-28T17:38:37.638+13:00December 28, 2017We apologise to readers who rely on this archive to get their dose of news from Hashigo Zake. A couple of weeks ago we announced that our estrangement with the Ballast Point brewery is over. The reasons were outlined here. Urban Pale & Jealous Plums
Tomorrow night we simultaneously launch two new beers that have quite a bit of significance.

Anniversaries
Beervana just announced their brewery lineup for this year and there’s less than a month until New Zealand’s highest profile beer festival. It was around the time of Beervana, way back in 2009, that we started trading here at Hashigo Zake. So every Beervana is a kind of anniversary for us.
From this year it’s also the anniversary of something slightly less joyous – the time Dominichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09858038384567580623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3658774796857871869.post-81520834727428665792017-07-06T21:19:00.001+12:002017-07-06T21:19:52.434+12:00July 6, 2017

It’s official. According to the Dominion Post we’re having a “meaty street party” in our “garden bar” on Saturday. We’re not sure how these descriptors came to be used to describe our first ever extension into the daylight, but if the cap fits…
